Stray dog on the run
When
the bike fails on me I’m lost. I’m not a mechanic you see. I was lost for twelve days in Cusco (Peru). The battery didn’t charge. No need to say that I didn’t know where to look for. When it comes to bike-problems I better ask a left-handed cheer girl to help me out. Then came Ko, the guy on the CX500, along and things took a turn. Ko fixed the ignition, another problem the bike had. Had to push the Guzzi for days to get her running on an altitude of 4000 meters and that’s of no fun when you smoke cigarettes and wiet.

Ko & Cupi
Something else, the moment I thought that I was
pretty damn cool cruising the old V7 through the Americas by myself I met my master. Ko is 67 years old and is traveling with his friend Cupi on an eighties Honda CX 500 with trailer from Buenos Aires to Alaska. They are already eight months in the saddle and plan to travel for years. They’ve been in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chili, Argentina and now Peru. They hardly speak Spanish but managed to stay out of trouble. ‘I don’t think we’re that special. We just do what we like. Still feel young, strong, so why not,’ Ko replied. No need to say that Ko and Cupi are Dutch. I mean you ain’t much if you ain’t Dutch, right?
